21 November 2010, The Feast of Christ the King
The theme for the historic visit of the Holy Father to the UK was “Heart Speaks Unto Heart”.
Pope Benedict came to be with the Catholics of Britain in order to encourage us in our faith and to strengthen our sense of discipleship.
He came to walk with us on our journey of faith and to open up for believers the Word of God that we might find new wisdom and joy in the message of Christ and in the promise of Resurrection.
Christ accompanied two of His disciples along the road to Emmaus and, on that journey he, too, strengthened His followers, opening up the Sacred Scriptures and making their hearts burn within them, before He revealed Himself to them as the Risen Lord.
It is hoped that, following the Holy Father’s visit, and having listened to all He has said to us, our hearts, too, will now burn within us, and that like these disciples on the road to Emmaus we may wish to go out and share the joy, the good news we possess.
As a legacy to the Papal Visit, we might help others listen with us to the heart of God speak to their hearts in the hope that, together, our faith might grow and we might be inspired to go out into the world accompanying others so that their hearts may also burn with the joy of salvation.
National Youth Sunday falls this year on 21 November 2010 - The Feast of Christ the King. Here you will find themes for reflection and for celebration, both liturgical and social. May those around us, seeing our joy, come and ask us the reason for the hope that we possess.
